Apple & Cheese Bread Recipe

With so many local apples available in the Farm Shop, you could make tasty Apple & Cheese Bread by following this simple recipe. Who knew making bread could be so easy?!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sized Sharnfold eating apples, grated
  • 150g grated cheddar (alternatively, you could try stilton!)
  • 500g strong white flour
  • 14g instant yeast
  • 10g sea salt
  • 330ml cool water
  • A small amount of vegetable oil

Method

Cook Time: 1hr

  1. Heat the oven to 220°c/200°c fan/gas 7.
  2. In a large bowl mix the flour, yeast and salt together loosely.
  3. Add 3/4 of the water and stir with your hand until a paste is formed, then add the remaining water.
  4. Gently massage the paste in the bowl into a dough when all ingredients have been incorporated. Add the small amount of vegetable oil to a surface and tip the dough on top.
  5. Knead the dough well for 10 minutes and then place back bowl to prove, the dough needs to double in size.
  6. Once the dough has doubled, tip onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape into a rectangle.
  7. Cover half of the dough with cheese and the other half with apple, then fold over.
  8. Place the dough onto a lined baking tray to rise for 30 minutes, dust with flour and make imprints with fingertips over the top.
  9. Place in the oven for 30 minutes until golden brown. Delicious!
